The 65 MPG Car

I saw this article a few weeks ago, and a friend sent it to me again, so I took another look. It’s an article about a Ford Fiesta that goes 65 miles to the gallon.

The catch? It runs on diesel.

Basically that means that the car runs great in Europe…which is where the car is currently made…but diesel is more expensive than gasoline in the United States, which makes it hard to justify it’s use. According to the article, government taxation on trucking keeps the price of diesel high. So essentially the car has gone the way of the Geo Metro…a car that got great gas mileage, but was done away with because it couldn’t meet basic government safety requirements.
