Artist to Encase Detroit Home in Ice
With the economy the way it’s been in the last couple years, there have been a lot of foreclosures. I’ve seen it affect a lot of people. On my block alone I know we’ve had a couple already this past year, and it’s been a big deal in the news and media for months. That said, there’s been no larger problem with the housing crisis than in Detroit, where, since the 1950′, the population has shrunk from 1.8 billion to half that in recent years. With plants closing, and the American car industry facing the worst drought in it’s history, the economy just can’t keep up. People are moving out, abandoning there homes, and houses are sitting derelict in the streets.
It’s a sad fact of the day that Detroit, right now, epitomizes what many people in the United States are going through right now. With that said, a couple artists in Detroit have come up with a plan to encase a home in ice this winter. Something along the lines of freezing a moment in time is what comes to mind. Currently they are looking for money for demolition next spring. You can see more information and a video at their site.
