Sony Playstation ‘Move’
Playstation today announced the new ‘Move’ controller, which seems to look and act a lot like the wand used on the Wii system. The major difference, as mentioned in the videos, is the addition of a camera, that tracks the controller using gesture recognition, and adds a dimension of control to the experience of game play that, on paper, is a significant improvement over the older Wii control device. Makes for an interesting product and opens up quite a few possibilities for the PS3, which has thus far seemed to have mostly shied away from direct competition with the Wii’s casual social gaming demagoguery.
I’m not expecting this device to revolutionize the marketplace by any means, but its release is definitely good for the cause. Still, the Wii has its work cut out for it, as the PS3 already has a considerable hardware advantage and is capable of HD, while the less expensive Wii is not. For older gamers looking for some of the charm of the Wii or those willing to try something new in the battle arena, this controller looks to be a must have add-on at less than $100 a pop.
Still, we’ve all kind of seen this evolution coming; and while Nintendo has publicly stated that they are not going to release a new system within the next year or so, I really don’t believe that they aren’t at least thinking about what they are going to put into the next one. In the world of gaming, you’re only as good as your next product, and the PS3 definitely has theirs.
