Google TV in Beta Testing
Google announced today that it, like many other companies have already done to various degrees of success, is getting into the internet television business. Partnering with Sony, Intel, and apparently Logitech, the Mountainview, California, company has announced that they will be adding software and hardware support for web browsing, Netflix, and online media viewing under several of the Sony brand offerings sometime in November 2010.
Billed as Google TV, the technology supports their recent Youtube updates and should add a lot of functionality to a once dumb appliance. Expect something along the lines of a version of Google Chrome for the operating system.
While Google TV isn’t anything that we haven’t talked about before, this technology has been around since the 90′s in one form or another, I see this as more of a move toward making online multimedia more accessible than a way to surf the web more efficiently. All in all, a timely solution that should give Google yet another leg up on Apple for ruler of the known universe.
